Suggestions on quality tyre brands
« Gepost op: oktober 30, 2012, 19:50:40 pm »
Hi guys

During recent drives I have been taken more notice of a constant but ever so slight side to side wobble from my Dax

Thinking it could be a number of things, from wheel balance, brake disk alignment or prop shaft alignment, I started with the easiest solutions first.

So I took the car to have the wheels balanced....turns out each tyre has serious flat spot from standing in one place too long......plus the tyres are over 10 years old (even though they have plenty of tread left) and so the rubber is starting to lose its flexibility (didn't know it but year of manufacture is stamped on each tyre)

So I am starting to investigate new tyre options.

Any experienced advice on the best brands available in the Netherlands for a reasonable price ?

I have 17inch Hallibrands

PS I appreciate I am writing in English (and apologize for doing so) on a Dutch Forum, but I have no problems reading (and speaking) Dutch, just my writing is at a 3 years old level.......so please reply in Dutch (if you like)

Cheers
Aaron

Regular tyre centers are mostly not the best place to go to because they just want to make quick money.
Please tell us what you look for in a tire, performance and or comfort wise, so we can find a nice tire for you.
We can go from regular street to extreme performance summer tires.
Please specify size.

There are exceptions: e.g. Profile Tyre Center 'Dassen' located in Eindhoven has a strong regional reputation for quality and workmanship, also for special cars.

Thanks for the responses guys
I actually was at a Profile Tyrecentre and the guys there certainly weren't trying to force a quick sell.

To be honest in an ideal world I would like some fat walled White Letter tyres like Cooper Cobra's or Goodyear Eagle's, but since I have 17" rims I am pretty well stuck with low profile performance tyres (unless I change to 15" or 16" rims)

Has anybody got any 15" or 16" Hallibrands they want to sell or swap for 17"s ?

I currently have 235/45 R17 on the front and 255/45 R17 on the back (Z rated Toyo's) so happy to receive suggestions on new options

Goodyear Eagle F1's seem interesting but they don't come in 255 widths !! Aaaaagh

I can supply the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 255/45 ZR17 for the front.
And 275/40 ZR17 for the rear.

235 is only produced in the 18" wheel size.

(You also can do the 255 for all 4 wheels)

Please specify your front wheel width.

Hi,

For our DAX project we just installed

M255/R45R17 DUNLOP Sport MAXX GT en
MA235/45R17 DUNLOP SP MAXX TT

Front and back are almost simular in looks. We do not have any input on the quality.
Only 500Km driven on our project  ;)

Yours sincerely

Hi Daveke,

I would except that 17 or 18 will fit, but I think you better could contact Dax Benelux to be sure.
Mvg,

Rocco Jansen

Hi HP
Current front tyre width is 235
I could be very interested in the EAGLE F1 GS-D3 255/45 ZR17 for the rear (as I have been unable to find these anywhere online)

Any chance in 255/50 17's ?

I am able find EAGLE F1 GS-D3 235/50 R17 96Y online, which would work for the front

Could you PM or email me a price estimate please?

Please specify your front wheel width.

I will measure my wheel widths this weekend and come back to you.

Front wheel width is 235mm (rim to rim) which matches with the 235/45ZR17 tyre sizing currently installed.
Rear wheel width is 255mm which again matches the 255/415ZR17 tyre installed

Does anyone know if it possible / safe to install an outsized tyre width on a wheel? Eg 235mm wheel and a 245 tyre ??
To me it wouldnt make sense, but to be honest that's only a guess.
It would be good to know exactly what tyre width ranges I could be considering with these wheel widths.
Cheers
Aaron

i know rocco.
but the only answer i get from john or dax is that for the old chasis only 15" is supported as in the manual discribed.

We will send you an email today.

We have outsized tires on a couple of our kitcars.
It is not that a big of a deal, as long you don't exaggerate it to much.
